Artificial insemination is used when couples that have been trying to get pregnant find out they have  infertility issues, either male or female, a single woman wishes to have a child, or a same-sex couple wishes to have a child [5]. Artificial insemination is also when there are no apparent fertility issues but a couple is experiencing difficulty in conceiving.  Infertility issue can be either physiologic or psychological in origin. AI can also be used when the couple’s infertility cannot be explained by any of the reasons mentioned on the Infertility page, and the couple would like to try a less invasive procedure. It is also used when financial means are limited because AI is less expensive than In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
